Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF) has joined forces with former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s #StartSmall initiative to donate a combined $15 million to 18 different climate justice groups. The grants will be awarded to organisations that focus on and are led by “women, youth, Black, Indigenous, people of colour and LGBTQIA+ communities” in the United States and the Caribbean.

"At the Clara Lionel Foundation, much of the work is rooted in the understanding that climate disasters, which are growing in frequency and intensity, do not impact all communities equally, with communities of colour and island nations facing the brunt of climate change,”  the Barbadian pop star said in a statement. “This is why CLF prioritises both climate resilience and climate justice work across the U.S. and Caribbean.”

The organisations set to receive the grants each aim to support communities of colour, with particular focus on island nations that are especially vulnerable to the effects of the climate crisis.

"CLF believes strongly that funders must build partnerships with organisations and acknowledge their deep understanding of what is necessary to achieve climate justice in their own communities," said Justine Lucas, Executive Director of the Clara Lionel Foundation.
