Craig Wolfley, a distinguished former NFL offensive lineman and esteemed broadcaster, passed away on March 10, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on May 19, 1958, in Buffalo, New York, Wolfley carved out a remarkable career both on and off the football field.

Early Life and College Career

Wolfley attended Orchard Park High School in New York before committing to Syracuse University, where he played from 1976 to 1979. His tenure at Syracuse was marked by consistent excellence, earning him a spot on the Syracuse University Football All-Century team in 1999.

NFL Career

Selected in the fifth round of the 1980 NFL Draft, Wolfley joined the Pittsburgh Steelers. Over a decade-long career with the team (1980–1989), he showcased versatility by playing both guard and tackle positions, starting in 104 games. He concluded his NFL journey with the Minnesota Vikings, playing from 1990 to 1991.

Post-Football Ventures

Beyond football, Wolfley explored various athletic endeavors, including weightlifting, boxing, sumo wrestling, and martial arts. Notably, he secured fifth place in the 1981 World's Strongest Man competition. His passion for combat sports led him to earn a black belt in jiu-jitsu.

Broadcasting Career

After retiring from professional play, Wolfley transitioned into broadcasting. He served as a sideline reporter for the Pittsburgh Steelers and co-hosted shows on 970 ESPN alongside former teammate Max Starks. Following the passing of his close friend and colleague, Tunch Ilkin, in 2021, Wolfley stepped into the role of color commentator for the Steelers' radio broadcasts, further cementing his legacy within the organization.

Wolfley was known for his deep-rooted faith and community involvement. He attended South Hills Bible Chapel alongside fellow Steelers Mike Webster and Tunch Ilkin, reflecting his commitment to both his spiritual and local communities.
