Born on December 16, 1988, in Vlorë, Albania, Murati's academic pursuits led her to Pearson College UWC in Canada and subsequently to Dartmouth College in the United States, where she earned a Bachelor of Engineering in mechanical engineering. Her professional trajectory includes notable positions at Tesla, where she contributed to the Model X project, and at Leap Motion, focusing on augmented reality technologies. In 2018, Murati joined OpenAI, ascending to the role of Chief Technology Officer by 2022. During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in developing groundbreaking AI tools such as ChatGPT, DALL-E, and Sora.

Thinking Machines Lab: A New Chapter

In February 2025, Murati launched Thinking Machines Lab, an AI startup based in San Francisco.
