On Friday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the electric vehicle manufacturer’s highly-anticipated cybertruck will first arrive with a four-motor variant. Turning to Twitter, the CEO wrote, “Initial production will be 4 motor variant, with independent, ultra-fast response torque control of each wheel.”
Musk has labelled the cybertruck, constructed from stainless steel, as an “insane technology bandwagon” that will be equipped with both front and rear-wheel steer, allowing the truck to “drive diagonally like a crab.”
Tesla’s cybertruck was first announced in 2019, with Musk previously stating the company received hundreds of thousands of orders for the vehicle when pre-orders became available.
In October, all details regarding the cybertruck and its pricing were removed from the Tesla website. Instead, buyers are invited to put down a refundable deposit of $100 to secure a cybertruck.
Production of Tesla’ cybertruck is expected to begin next year, with volume production set to commence in 2023.
