According to the country’s Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, the Maldives could disappear by the end of the century, if the world does not act quickly.

In response to this devastating estimate, the government of the Maldives has been working in collaboration with Netherlands-based developer Dutch Docklands to generate plans for an innovative floating city.

As of 2022, the city has been in development for over a decade and is set to house thousands of floating, water-front residences in a functional grid that spans across a 200-hectare lagoon.

Nicknamed Maldives Floating City, the site will be located just 10 minutes away from the Maldives’ capital, Male. The island will also boast luxury hotels, restaurants, boutiques and a world-class marina.

The Floating City will feature spectacular, bright colours, mirroring traditional Maldivian architecture. Dutch Docklands worked closely with local authorities and urban-planning firm tapped Waterstudio to get every detail of the innovative city just right.

“This will be an amazing place where locals and foreigners can buy their dream property at affordable prices,” Dutch Docklands CEO Paul HTM van de Camp commented.
