Bio: Sir Andrew Philip Witty, born on 22 August 1964, is a British corporate leader currently serving as the chief executive officer (CEO) of UnitedHealth Group. Prior to his current position, he held the CEO role at GlaxoSmithKline from 2008 to 2017. Additionally, he previously served as the chancellor of the University of Nottingham.

Witty began his career at Glaxo UK in 1985 as a management trainee. He held various roles in the UK, including director of pharmacy & distribution at Glaxo Pharmaceuticals UK. Later, he served as vice president and general manager of marketing at Glaxo Wellcome Inc., a subsidiary of GlaxoSmithKline. In 2000, he worked as an economic adviser to the governor of Guangzhou, China. In 2003, he was appointed president, Pharmaceuticals Europe of GlaxoSmithKline plc, and later became CEO in 2008. During his tenure, he made efforts to change the pricing of GSK pharmaceuticals to make them more affordable in low-income countries and also pledged certain patents to a pool for the search for new drugs. From 2010 to 2015, Witty served on the business advisory board of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron.

Did you know: Witty was knighted in the 2012 New Year Honours for services to the economy and the UK pharmaceutical industry. He was also conferred the Honorary Citizen of Singapore in 2018.
